But yes, I should be able to counter her if need be. I think she'll find that once she lets go and trains more, she'll feel better in general. Her fear permeates her.

I know, I'm getting popular around here.

I felt that. I could almost sense it holding her back. Maybe for now it helps her feel in control, but I worry that it'll be all the more catastrophic when something inevitably pushes her over the edge. She needs to know how to wield her power, and I want her to be safe.

I agree entirely. We know what can happen if someone is afraid of themselves. If she can learn to use it, she'll be more powerful than she can imagine right now. Like someone else I know.

[heavymetals]

Not unlike me, I know. She has more in common with me than I would wish on anyone, least of all someone I care about. But I suppose it has brought us closer to each other.

There are a few things about you that I think are excellent qualities for others to have in common, my love. Let's hope we can pull out some of those for her too.

I was comparing our lived experiences rather than our personalities, Charles. What traits of mine specifically do you find so terrible?

[ There's an obvious edge of amusement to the thought, teasing Charles more than anything. (Also, he knows.) ]

Oh I don't know, possibly your reckless impulsivity that led to you throwing my son at an interdimensional cube.

[heavymetals]

You mean your even more reckless and impulsive son who was the one to come to me for help with that very plan?

[thetruefocus]

You didn't have to be the one who threw him! One of you should have had a clearer head.

[heavymetals]

He was going to do something regardless. If it weren't me, he would have simply found someone else to help him make it happen. I'm not saying it was entirely selfless on my part, I also wanted to learn more about the cube, but I thought it best that if someone was going to help Logan with his idea, that it'd better be me.

[thetruefocus]

Or he might not have found anyone who could throw him and had to live with it. You two need to learn how to be more careful. This cube is far more than what we're used to dealing with.

[heavymetals]

We will be more careful. We've promised as much, haven't we? We're not going near the cube again until such a time calls for it.

[ Not if, though. Definitely a when, in Erik's personal opinion. ]

I do. I truly am sorry about that, we should have spoken to you before.

Whatever we do next, it will be as a team. And I promise not to toss Logan again. Well, only as a last resort.

[ He sounds grumpy about it, but Erik has mollified him, and he sends a burst of loving warmth at him.]

By the way, I assume you've met a man named Bucky? I imagine that's not his actual name.

He says it is his name. He's friends with Steve, so he is from Wanda's world. Did you meet him at the party? I told him you might get along.

I did, though I'm not sure if 'getting along' is the right way of describing the interaction.

He believes that you're the leader of a cult.

[thetruefocus]

[ It's as if his mind is a skipping record for a moment there. Incredulously, he says:]

A what? Bloody hell, I was wondering why he acted so strangely.

I imagine. He seemed like an exceptionally paranoid individual, and that's coming from me.

I'm afraid I didn't help much. But it was a rather amusing conversation.

Well that's annoying. I let him talk to me about his relationship woes and tried to befriend him, and the whole time he thought the worst of me.

[heavymetals]

Really, now. That's hardly the worst he could think of you.

Cult leaders are hardly paragons of virtue.

[heavymetals]

Still, at least it wasn't a mass murderer, or a genocidal maniac. There are worse things. Maybe don't take this so seriously.

It's annoying. I hope Steve doesn't think that.
